Langley, B.C.-based Bulk Specialty has announced the completion of a $3.5 million investment in its transloading terminal, which it says will improve efficiency, safety, and capacity.

The upgrades include: a 20% increase in rail car spots for greater capacity; two new high-speed loading racks powered by an advanced 500-meter header supply system; the ability to load 60,000 liters in 30 minutes to reduce driver time at the rack; dual loading arms; blending ability for dye; and a new spill containment system to ensure environmental and operational safety.

Additional safety features have also been implemented at the facility, according to the company, which is a subsidiary of Alchemist Specialty Carriers.

The company also updates its transportation management system to eliminate bill of lading errors, reduce loading times, and improve reporting. Soon, carriers will be able to self-load directly from the racks for improved efficiency, the company announced.
